Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

This week is Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori. We created a comic strip with 2 characters greeting each other and having a koereo in Canva.

We found the character builder in and made 2 characters. We remembered how to duplicate them and place them in the comic strip frames. Then we added speech bubbles and formed the korero that they were having together.

Here is Noah G’s mahi. You can read more posts on his blog here.

We were learning about te wiki o te reo maori so we did a comic strip on canva about it.

I found it hard to do nothing . I finished really quickly.

I found it easy to make my comic strip. I do them all of the time with my little brother.

I really enjoyed making my characters on character creator.

Next time I would make it longer than 1 page.

Here is Zane’s mahi. You can read more posts on his blog here.

Today we did a comic book.

We did the words maori.

To do the people, we use character builder.

I did not know maori words. So I used english to maori.

I made the people look like they are moving.

Conservation Week | Te Wiki Tiaki Ao Tūroa

This week we made a video about the action we took in our environment as kaitiaki for Conservation Week | Te Wiki Tiaki Ao Tūroa.

We used Canva to make a video. We used photos from a Google Drive folder that we had to download. We then designed our frames and used at least 3 photos. We recorded ourselves explaining what we did and why we did it. We also added audio to the frames where our video wasn’t playing.

Here is Jahzel’s mahi. You can read more posts on her blog here.

Today we were making a video on canva. We made four slides on a video in canva and the first slide was going to be the first bit that you see when you press the video. The second slide was the slide that I had to put my recording of me talking about all the rubbish that I picked. The way we made the recording was that on canva you click the upload button and there you will see a button that says record. And when I did all that I finished of all the slides with pictures of the rubbish and some other kids helping pick up rubbish.

Book Character Day

Today we had our Book Character Day. We dressed up and had a parade with the whole school.

In our Cybersmart lesson we took a photo of ourselves using the camera app on our Chromebook and then made a movie of ourselves in Canva. We removed the background of our image, designed the page to match our character and recorded ourselves talking about the book and character we had chosen.

Here is Leityn’s mahi.

We were learning about taking a video and talking about our book character.

I found it hard to find the letters and put them into where they go and try to do the video.

I found it easy to do the background and the photo.

I really enjoyed doing the photo because it was easy to find it.

Next time I will try and do the video faster and the letters.

Tangrams

We used the Tangram Builder on Mathigon – an online tool.

If you click on a shape in Mathigon it will give you the outline to help you. We had to rotate some shapes to make them fit and we had to use all 7 pieces in our Tangram. We took a screenshot of our tangram and inserted it into our blog.

Click here if you would like to try to create Tangrams.

Which shape do you think is the easiest to make? Which one do you think is the most difficult?

Here is Amber’s mahi. You can read more posts on Amber’s blog here.

We were learning how to use tangram mathigon, by using 7 shapes.

I found it hard to figure out where each shape went because I was doing the advanced level.

I found it easy to put the last shapes in because there was only one spot left.

I really enjoyed all of it because it was fun and hard at the same time.

Next time I will not rush and take my time, also do more pictures.

Matariki Star Animation

Today in our Cybersmart lesson we lused Canva to create an animation fo the Matriki Stars. We added one star at a time to our frames so they appeared in the sky. We could use elements that were already animated or use the custom animation tool in Canva.

We downloaded our video from Canva and inserted it into our blog. Ned found that we could change the settings in edublog and make the video start automatically and loop. This way it looks like a GIF.

Here is Ned’s mahi.

Today we were creating a matariki video on canva it was fun animating and choosing the stars. I liked finding different stars to go as my Matariki star cluster because they were all cool for how they were animated. I found it hard to make the Gif a video because I have not done Canva in a while. If I do a similar thing in the future I will spend more time searching the graphics because I finished quite fast.

Matariki Landscape

Today in our Cybersmart lesson we were using the Polyline drawing tool to create a Matariki Landscape.

We created a shape using polyline for one set of mountains. We duplicated this and then flipped it horizontally. Once we placed it above the first set we arranged it and moved it to back so it sat behind the first set.

Then we created the Matariki Stars in the sky and tried to place them as they are seen in the sky.

There are lots of dramatic scenes created. Take a look at our mahi.

Draw a Star

Today in our Cybersmart lesson we learned how to Draw a Star with 2 triangles. We did lots of mahi with click, hold and drag using both hands on our touchpad. We learned how to rotate, resize, duplicate, make lines transparent, arrange and colour fill our triangles. Phew!

We also used Geoboard – an online tool. We took a screenshot of our triangle and inserted it in our slides. You can try out Geoboard by clicking this link

If you want to try this out there are video tutorials on Amber’s slides below.

What shapes do you think you can make on Geoboard?

Maths Quiz in Scratch

We are learning how to use Scratch which is a free programming language and online community where you can create your own interactive stories, games, and animations.

We all belong to our class and we save our projects into a “Studio” so we can all see each other’s work and comment on them.

Today we made a Maths Quiz. Some of us were able to code in more than one question.

Here is Tawhai’s work. You can read more on his blog here.

I really liked how I knew how to use the blocks because without it I wouldn’t get something like this.

The thing that I learned that would surely help was the score in the corner for future projects.

The hardest thing was dragging and finding the blocks and put them in because I didn’t copy and paste.

The easy thing was the answers because I’m really good at math.

Next time I will add more questions if I have more time.

Personal & Private information

Today we were learning about private and personal information. We watched the video about this and we had to decide what we can share online and what we can’t see online. Then we went to a slide and we had to sort the information I was able to sort it into two places.

Here is Isobelle’s mahi. You can read more posts on her blog here.

Today we are learning about personal & private information. We were watching a video about sharing things without sharing our private information.
